So, according to to idiots at the university I attended way back when, Equal Pay Day is approaching, March 24 apparently. Today they sent out an email which I will copy here.

Hello NDSU Staff –

Did you know that Equal Pay Day is coming up next week on March 24th?  What is Equal Pay Day you ask?  This is a national day of recognition acknowledging that women in this country, especially women of color, receive wages grossly beneath their male counterparts.  So what do we do?

Become more educated on the topic

Asian American & Pacific Islander Women make: $0.85/$1 that a males makes

All Women make: $0.84/$1 that a males makes

Black Women make: $0.63/$1 that a male makes

Native American Women make: $0.60/$1 that a male makes

Latina Women make: $0.55/$1 that a male makes

Support yourself, peers, and students

  • Demonstrate solidarity by wearing red next Wednesday and join us for a campus photo on Churchill Field at 2 pm (please try to arrive five minutes early if possible).
    • Why red? Red symbolizes that women are “in the red” with their salaries, compared to men’s.
  • Help others to get educated and let students know how they can get assistance in preparing for salary negotiations.

I wrote about this bullshit several years ago, which you can read here. Since then, not much has changed, except the gap has gotten even narrower, 2% is usually well within the range of margin of error.

I do get a bit of a kick out of the last line of the email. “You are asked to refrain from responding with your personal views to the individual who provided the information.” That makes it seem like this is more of a political email utilizing official NDSU communications rather than the official position of the institution.
